Geriatric psychiatrist Michelle Conroy recognized as future leader in the field

At this year’s annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association, Michelle Conroy, MD, assistant clinical professor of psychiatry and of nursing, will receive the 2015 Hartford-Jeste Award For Future Leaders in Geriatric Psychiatry.

The Hartford-Jeste Award recognizes an early career geriatric psychiatrist who has made noteworthy contributions to the field of geriatric psychiatry through excellence in research, teaching, clinical practice, and community service, and has demonstrated the potential to develop into a future leader in the field.

Conroy is the associate director of the Yale Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship. She is employed at the West Haven campus of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System (VACHS), where she chairs of the Dementia Committee. She is vice-chair of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) Scholars Program, and serves on the AAGP Nominations Committee, as well as the AAGP Teaching and Training Committee.

Her interests include medical education, the neuropsychiatric manifestations of dementia, and the interface between medicine and psychiatry. She serves as the co-faculty leader of the Geriatrics Interest Group, and on the curriculum committee for the Yale Psychiatry–Primary Care Clerkship. She is also the co-director of the Geriatric Psychiatry/Geriatric Medicine Fellows’ didactics series, and the co-course director of the PGY-2 rotation in geriatric psychiatry at VACHS.

Conroy graduated from Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Brown Medical School. She completed her psychiatry residency at Brown University, where she was chief resident. She completed her Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at Beth Israel in New York City.

The American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting will be held May 16-20, 2015 in Toronto.
