R. Andrew Sewell MD

Biographical Info

Dr. Sewell graduated from University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 1998, then completed a combined residency in Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine under Dr. Sheldon Benjamin in 2004. Following that, he went to McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School where he studied the subjective and endocrine response to acute nicotine and cocaine administration under the late Dr. Jack Mendelson. For the last three years he has worked in the Schizophrenia Research Group under Dr. Cyril D'Souza, studying the effects of psychotropic agents such as alcohol, delta-9-THC, amphetamine, iomazenil, and salvinorin A in human subjects. The primary focus of his research is ameliorating the effects of alcohol and drug abuse in patients with psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia.
