Biography

Donna DiCello, Psy.D. received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University New England in 1996 and her M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University in 1988, though her clinical experience spans over 30 years. She was the former Associate Director and faculty member for the Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology at the University of Hartford from 2000-2013. She has also served as adjunct faculty in the Psy.D. program at Antioch University New England. She maintained a clinical practice in New Haven until she retired from full-time pratice in 2022, in which she specialized in anxiety; depression; relationship difficulties (both heterosexual and same-sex); cancer recovery; stress; bereavement and grief; developmental life transitions, particularly those of girls and women (including midlife and caregiver concerns), with a special focus on the concerns of young adults. Her theoretical lens includes psychodynamic, attachment, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal perspectives, which are framed by issues of social justice. Dr. DiCello has presented at regional, national, and international conferences on the areas of grief work as well as Italian American mental health issues, and with her colleague, Dr. Lorraine Mangione, has co-authored a book titled Daughters, Dad, and the Path through Grief: Tales from Italian America with New Harbinger/Impact Publishing, Inc. In addition to her clinical interests, Dr. DiCello has published her poetry in a number of literary journals, and was nominated for both a Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net prize for poetry. Over the past year she has become more active in the climate movement, and is currently enrolled in the New Directions writing program at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis.
