Dike appointed assistant medical director of Conn. Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services

Charles Dike, MBChB, MD, MPH, FRCPsych, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Yale, has been appointed to serve as the assistant medical director for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) effective January 1, 2015. DMHAS Commissioner Patricia Rehmer, MSN announced the promotion on August 22, 2014.

From Commissioner Rehmer's announcement:

"I am pleased to announce that Charles Dike, MD is being promoted to the position of DMHAS Assistant Medical Director effective 1/1/15. Dr. Dike has served as Division Director of the Whiting Forensic Division (WFD) of Connecticut Valley Hospital since 2012 and prior to that, served as Medical Director of the WFD for six years. During his tenure he has ensured that individuals served in WFD are treated with dignity and respect and that clinical care is at the forefront of decision-making.

"Dr. Dike completed his medical school education in Nigeria and his residency in England and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a graduate of the Yale fellowship program in forensic psychiatry and is board certified in adult general and forensic psychiatry. Dr. Dike is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of England. In addition, he holds a diploma in clinical psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the Republic of Ireland, and a Masters of Public Health degree – Health Policy Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

"A past president of Connecticut Psychiatric Society, Dr. Dike was Chair of the Ethics Committee of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law for six years, has been editor of the Newsletter of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law for seven years, and is co-deputy training director of the forensic psychiatric fellowship program at Yale. He has published in the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, International Journal of Law and Psychiatry, International Drug Therapies Newsletter, Psychiatric Services, the British Journal of Psychiatry and Psychiatric Times."
