Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital announces retirement of W. Leonard Hill, LCSW

July 30, 2014

W. Leonard Hill, LCSW, manager of psychiatric ambulatory services at Yale-New Haven Hospital, has announced his intention to retire effective August 8th, 2014. Hill is a former member of the Yale Department of Psychiatry faculty and led the training programs at the Yale Psychiatric Institute.

The following announcement was distributed to Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital and Medical Staff:

As an educator, leader, and consistent advocate for the needs of psychiatric patients, Leonard will be deeply missed.

Leonard’s career began more than 40 years ago with his service to the Yale Department of Psychiatry as a faculty member and leader of the training programs at the Yale Psychiatric Institute. After more than 30 years of service, Leonard shifted his role to become the leader of psychiatric ambulatory services at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

During his career, Leonard has been responsible for and involved in every major service initiative in psychiatry since joining the faculty and hospital. These include milestones such as leading the psychiatric training programs and opening the Yale Psychiatric Institute campus on 184 Liberty Street, the creation of the Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital and the mentoring and teaching of countless social work interns, residents, psychology trainees, and other personnel in our medical center.

As the manager of ambulatory psychiatric services at Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, Leonard managed the adult intensive outpatient program, with dramatic and sustained improvements in service quality, patient satisfaction and volume for more than a decade. As a leader in psychiatric ambulatory services, few have met so many milestones and have impacted as many as Leonard Hill.

We have been fortunate to have Leonard provide such thoughtful and compassionate care to our patients and community over the last four decades.
